The former Portuguese enclave of Macau may not be a large in terms of size, but there's plenty of big news for its burgeoning tourism industry.
The Las Vegas-style Cotai Strip has seen a recent unveiling of new restaurants, along with the launch of extra activities, new hotels and shows, guided tours and attractions. And nearing completion is a giant development that will bring together three additional international hotel brands - Conrad, Sheraton and Holiday Inn.
Close to the iconic Ruins of St Paul's and located inside a Portuguese-designed building is the new Macau Tourism and Cultural Activities Centre, showcasing locally made and designed products and artwork. The building also houses a new Portuguese-style cafe and restaurant, Lusitanus, that sells egg tarts and other traditional delicacies. Saturday evenings are reserved for a la carte diners. The eatery also doubles as a gourmet, handicraft and design store. Upstairs is a Chinese tea and art showroom where visitors can learn about the tea culture while sampling a beverage and some specialty snacks.
And a new series of Macau harbour cruises, including a buffet dinner cruise, has been introduced to highlight the destination's many tourist attractions by day and night.
